Slough School Columbia Slough Watershed Council
Slough School is the K-college education program of the Columbia Slough Watershed Council.
It provides classroom presentations, field science programs, and service learning opportunities for students in the watershed.
Slough School works with local high school students to prepare them to act as mentors with younger students.
Teacher workshops and other resources are also provided for participating teachers.
Please contact Education Director Sheilagh Diez at sheilagh.diez@columbiaslough.org to learn more about program.
We utilize teacher surveys with each program.
We also develop more detailed protocols such as pre-/post-KWL charts to evaluate one specific program each academic year.
Student outcomes include increased understanding of watershed ecology, increased familiarity with our region’s natural areas and increased awareness of our watershed’s interconnected relationships. Slough School supports teacher workshops and prepares high school students to mentor younger students during Slough School activities.
Our goal is to encourage the next generation of watershed stewards. We do this by introducing them to information about local ecology, giving them a chance to participate in hands-on field science programs, and contribute to local native habitat restoration.
To schools located within watershed boundaries.
