Oregon Environmental Literacy Plan General Content
House Bill 2544, also known as the “No Child Left Inside Act,” created the eleven-member Oregon Environmental Literacy Task Force. The Task Force was charged with developing the Oregon Environmental Literacy Plan and reporting back to the Legislature by October 1, 2010.
As part of the Oregon Environmental Literacy Plan, the Task Force was charged with several tasks, including:
* Preparing students to understand and address the major environmental challenges facing Oregon and the United States;
* Help establish programs that promote healthy lifestyles through outdoor recreation and sound nutrition;
* Create professional development opportunities for teachers to improve their knowledge of environmental issues and skills in teaching about environmental issues.
