Eco-Schools Without Borders program seeks new school candidates
Eco-Schools Without Borders, a project of the Center for Earth Leadership, is offering experienced parent volunteers to help with sustainability efforts in schools that don’t have many parent volunteers (Title 1 schools). The Center started a pilot project at James John Elementary last fall, and it turned out to be very successful. Here is a quote from Jane Haroldson, 3rd grade teacher:
I am a teacher at James John Elementary School who began a pilot program with the Eco-Schools Network. A parent from The Network comes and helps me with my Green Team of students and the work we do to reduce waste and save energy at school. She has been incredibly helpful and a great resource.
Projects range from reducing cafeteria waste, to school gardens, to saving energy, to student green teams. Our program has the capacity to add three more Portland Metro region schools in 2012. If you are interested in having a support person to help with sustainability projects at your school, please contact Emily Klavins, Program Coordinator for the Center for Earth Leadership, at 503-227-2315 or emily@earthleaders.org.
